The National Symphony Orchestra of Romania joins forces with the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra with Wynton Marsalis for its first-ever performance in the United States. The JLCO has a proud and longstanding tradition of collaborating with orchestras from all over the world, and this event begins an exciting relationship that will bring new art to audiences in both countries. The JLCO and NSOR will each kick off the show with brief solo performances, giving audiences a taste of what makes them the best-in-class. They will then share the stage for the world premiere of Wynton Marsalis’ The Jungle. The piece was recently commissioned for the New York Philharmonic’s 175th Anniversary, and an early version was performed to sold-out crowds for five nights straight. Marsalis will now share the complete version of his extraordinary suite in Rose Theater. The Jungle is about what we see in our city today—the beautiful, the bleak, and the ever-present but often-overlooked commonalities of our shared humanity. The music speaks for itself, but it is especially meaningful to perform it live with our Romanian brothers and sisters.
