BLUE NOTE & THE JAPAN FOUNDATION PRESENT: EAST MEETS WEST BRUNCH feat. MAO SONÉ

Mao Soné is a professional trumpet player, pianist, and composer from Japan, who has strongly developed and identifiable style merging Japanese traditional sound and the other cultures, using jazz as a medium. He is known for his unorthodox approach to playing both the trumpet and the piano simultaneously.



Born in Tokyo, Japan in 1991. Mao became a local musician in his hometown, Nagareyama, at the age of nine. Mao received a full scholarship at Berklee College Of Music when he was seventeen. At Berklee, Mao studied with Tiger Okoshi, Sean Jones and Hal Crook. During his time at Berklee, he became a part of Berklee Global Jazz Institute and he worked with internationally recognized artists such as Danilo Perez, John Patitucci and Joe Lovano. He also performed at Monterey Jazz Festival, Newport Jazz Festival, Montreal Jazz Festival, and etc. He earned his master's degree in 2016. ...
