At 35 years old, Ryan Keberle is already an astoundingly versatile musician. He’s worked closely with a variety of artists including Wynton Marsalis, Maria Schneider, Alicia Keys, Beyoncé, and Sufjan Stevens – not to mention performing with the Saturday Night Live band, Broadway orchestras, and film soundtracks. Last summer he brought his one-of-a-kind band Catharsis to Dizzy’s, and he now returns with a wildly different program. The Big Band Living Legacy Project celebrates and carries on the musical heritage of big band jazz, performed by original members of such classic big bands as Count Basie, Duke Ellington, Woody Herman, Buddy Rich, and Benny Goodman. The repertoire includes hits and lesser known works by composers including Sy Olliver, Fletcher Henderson, Duke Ellington, Billy Strayhorn, Neil Hefti, Ernie Wilkins, Thad Jones, and Bob Brookmeyer. Keberle is a clever arranger and passionate bandleader, and tonight’s band will inject fresh life into this timeless repertoire....
