Two-time Grammy nominee Dafnis Prieto, recipient of a 2011 MacArthur Fellowship (the “genius grant”), transposes elements from his Afro-Cuban musical heritage onto a jazz drum kit, with congas, timbales, and the layered patterns of rumba & son. With Peter Apfelbaum on tenor & soprano sax, Manuel Valera on piano, & Johannes Weidenmueller on bass, all are amongst the most in-demand players in NY’s vibrant jazz and Latin jazz scenes.
