Lena Bloch is a new artist on the NYC jazz scene, who has a truly multicultural background: she grew up in Russia, studied and performed in Israel, Germany, Holland, Italy, Belgium, Slovenia with Mal Waldron, Johnny Griffin, Keith Copeland, Steve Reid, Vishnu Wood, Alvin Queen and with her own quartet. “Translucent Explorations” is a project on interactive, spontaneous, freshly performed compositional activity, where all four band members are featured as soloists and composers. Dan Tepfer, Dave Miller, Billy Mintz and Lena Bloch have all contributed their compositions to this project. The result is an exciting, emotional, sensitive and melodious improvisation, sometimes collective, sometimes putting a spotlight on a solo, a duet or a trio for a moment. The music is dynamic, yet at times meditative and introspective.
