Sabir Mateen has been spreading the musical word in the musical world since 1977 when he began to perform with Horace Tapscott. Since then Mr. Mateen's music has been played throughout the U.S., Canada, Europe, Africa and Asia and he has recorded and / or played with Horace Tapscott, Sunny Murray, Cecil Taylor, William Parker, Jemeel Moondoc, Wilber Morris, Butch Morris, Alan Silva, William Hooker, Dave Burrell and in Collectives with Matthew Shipp, Roy Campbell, Michael Wimberly, TEST, Eternal Unity, The Blood Trio and his own bands The Sabir Mateen Ensemble, Omni-Sound and TRIO SABIR.
