About
Making her Birdland debut, multi-GRAMMY® Award nominee, Brazilian pianist/singer/composer/arranger Eliane Elias has been known for a distinctive musical style which blends Brazilian roots and a sensuous, alluring voice with impressive compositional and piano skills. After working with Brazilian singer/songwriter Toquinho at the age of seventeen, Elias moved to NYC 1982 and landed a spot in the acclaimed group Steps Ahead. Since then she has enjoyed critical acclaim as an artist equally expressive in jazz, classical and Brazilian music (she's widely considered a foremost interpreter of the music of Antonio Carlos Jobim). Eliane's new ECM CD release, "Swept Away" with legendary bassist and musical/life partner Marc Johnson, is a collaborative effort that has "produced the most sumptuous music imaginable," ([ii]All About Jazz) filled with "near-telepathic interchange."
