About
Obsessions Octet, an Edmonton, Canada-based ensemble, was founded in 2005 by Kent Sangster along with his wife Joanna Ciapka-Sangster, a classically-trained violinist.
The octet’s sound is an elegant blend of classical, Latin, and jazz elements, including works by Astor Piazzolla, Chucho Valdez, Cole Porter, and a collection of Kent Sangster’s original compositions.
Following the success of the ensemble’s debut album, Obsession, in 2006, which earned a Western Canadian Music Award and a Juno Award nomination, Obsessions Octet’s sophomore release Melodia has established this crossover ensemble as one of the finest of its kind in North America.
