Jazz as a revolutionary force, an agent of social change, shall be feted with performances by some of NYC's most decidedly political improvisers and an international rad poet..............
Brooklyn NY: ‘THE OCTOBER JAZZ REVOLUTION’ TAKES ON WILLIAMSBURG
On October 20, gallery/performance space 17 Frost Theatre of the Arts in Williamsburg Brooklyn will play host to the first annual October Jazz Revolution. The event, organized by percussionist John Pietaro and presented by the Dissident Arts Front, will celebrate the radical sounds of improvisational music as a statement of wider liberation. Emboldened progressive statements of social justice will be present through much of the music heard, ranging from original works to reconstructions of older protest music to thematic free jazz. The October Jazz Revolution is modeled on earlier Left music/political movements including those of Bill Dixon, the AACM, the Liberation Music Orchestra, and the Composers Collective of NY, among others.
The 'dissident swing' quartet performs adaptations of Bertolt Brecht/Hanns Eisler revolutionary songs as well as originals, free improv and more.
