About
Bill Charlap brings together some of the world’s finest jazz players for once-in-a-lifetime performances. 92Y Jazz in July concerts begin with a rare New York appearance by the legendary Ernie Andrews and the great Freddy Cole in an evening of song; a celebration of Richard Rodgers closes the first week of the festival with a line-up including the incomparable Barbara Carroll, young vocal star Sachal Vasandani, and an all-star line-up including Warren Vaché. In between Bill Charlap and Renee Rosnes explore the groundbreaking work of Bill Evans. The second week opens with a night bringing together Charlap with his Jazz in July predecessor Dick Hyman, who passed the artistic director baton in 2005. Art Blakey gets his due as Lewis Nash and Kenny Washington put the drums front and center and 92Y Jazz in July swings to a close with the Count Basie Orchestra and special guests NEA Jazz Master Frank Wess and festival favorite Bucky Pizzarelli.
