About
Part of the mission of Jazz at Lincoln Center is to present and commission new works by outstanding jazz musicians. For our first commissioned work since 2007, the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra with Wynton Marsalis features trombonist Chris Crenshaw’s exciting spiritually-focused work, God’s Trombones, based on the poem by James Weldon Johnson. JALC additionally commissioned the work of saxophonist Sherman Irby, who will musically interpret the depths of the human condition in his new extended work, Inferno. This piece will feature choreography by Hope Boykin, star of Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater, and performed by HopeBoykinDance.
