About
The Horns Band is Matt Pavolka’s new project that features…well…horns. It’s kind of like his other band except it’s different and there are horns. Not just any old horns, and not just any horn players. Kirk Knuffke, Loren Stillman and Jacob Garchik are three of the finest and the collective might of their wind-powered onslaught will leave you…breathless. Add Mark Ferber on drums and Pavolka on bass (and a little trombone, if he’s feeling it) along with a whole bunch of new music for them to expound upon and you’re talking about an event that may just be worth leaving home for.
The Matt Pavolka Band (Matt Pavolka, Ben Monder, Pete Rende, Ted Poor) has been sharing their particular take on the music of the early twenty-first century with audiences in New York and abroad for the past five years or so now. Pavolka’s compositions are influenced by everything from Lemmy Kilmister to Thomas Pynchon to Japanese Astrology Lessons to dear departed pets. The band brings a wealth of experience in the New York jazz and creative music scenes to bear on the music, twisting, turning, sometimes cajoling and sometimes pounding it mercilessly into submission to create an experience that JAZZ.PT describes as “a Virus-like sonic discharge”.
